  • RARE 1968 HEMI ROAD RUNNER

LITTLE DID CHRYSLER KNOW WHEN THEY HELD PRODUCTION PLANNING MEETINGS IN LATE 1964 THAT THE RESULT WOULD INITIATE THE MOST DESIRABLE HIGH PERFORMANCE ENGINE EVER BOLTED INTO A PASSENGER CAR. BY DETUNING THE RACE HEMI AND ADAPTING IT TO STREET USE IN SELECTED CAR MODELS FROM 1966-1971, A LEGEND WAS BORN. TOTAL PRODUCTION RUN FROM '66-'71 FOR THESE ELEPHANT MOTORS WAS ONLY ABOUT 12,000. THANKFULLY, ALL 12,000 WERE 425 HP RATED. CHRYSLER EMPLOYEE TED FLACK RECALLS FROM HIS DAYS IN THE DYNO LAB THAT EVERY HEMI THEY TESTED "MADE 425 HORSEPOWER LIKE CLOCKWORK". ALSO ADDING TO THE POWER MYTH WAS THE FACT THAT CHRYSLER NEVER WATERED DOWN THE 426 IN THE EARLY '70'S POLLUTION DAYS-THEY JUST STOPPED MAKING IT! NEEDLESS TO SAY, IN THE CURRENT COLLECTOR MARKET, SOME OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE INVESTMENTS OUT THERE ARE HEMI MOPARS.

FOR SALE HERE IS A TRUE INVESTMENT GRADE CLASSIC- AND AS ALWAYS WE OFFER THIS BEAUTY BELOW MARKET VALUE. FIRST TIME AVAILABLE FOR SALE IN OVER 10 YEARS. DOCUMENTED BY GALEN GOVIER AND IN THE CHRYSLER REGISTRY. 1968 PLYMOUTH HEMI ROAD RUNNER PILLAR COUPE. ONE OF 449 FOUR SPEED COUPES BUILT IN THE U.S. IN 1968. NUMBER 32 OF 51 IN SEQUENCE REGISTERED AT THE ST. LOUIS PLANT. MOPAR FANS IN THE ILLINOIS/WISCONSIN AREA WILL RECOGNIZE THIS CAR. FOR THE LAST TEN+ YEARS, IT HAS BELONGED TO A MEMBER OF THE CHICAGOLAND MOPAR CONNECTION. THIS GORGEOUS PLYMOUTH HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN MANY CRUISES AND SHOWS. DON'T MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY TO OWN ONE OF THE NICEST REAL HEMI ROAD RUNNER COUPES IN THE COUNTRY. ONE SOLD AT BARRETT-JACKSON FOR $150,000. THIS VEHICLE IS PRICED REALISTICALLY TO SELL- BELOW MARKET VALUE. BID TO OWN IT, BECAUSE IT WILL SELL THIS WEEK. CHECK MY WEBSITE AND EBAY HISTORY. WE SELL ONLY A LIMITED NUMBER OF INVESTMENT GRADE VEHICLES- ALL BELOW MARKET VALUE. THE FLOOR TIME OF OUR VEHICLES AVERAGES 14-21 DAYS. DON'T HESITATE TO PARTICIPATE BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

EXTERIOR: All original body panels on this car are lazer straight. Fit on all panels is excellent. Mirror finish Code JJ1 Medium Gold Metallic paint. Factory Accent Stripe Delete Order. Body was media blasted and painted some years back- still looks fresh. Restoration was completed to factory appearance. Correct over spray on floors and undercarriage from body color. No dents, dings, scratches, flaws, chips- show quality. All chrome in excellent condition. All stainless, trim, and emblems also in excellent condition. All glass is clear and in great shape. Rare extra rear window included with the vehicle. Correct 15" Hemi steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps.. Wheels have been blasted and painted. New Coker Classic Redline Radial Tires, P235/75R15.

DRIVETRAIN- Documenting an original engine on a mid '68 and earlier Hemi car is difficult because no vin numbers were stamped on the block. I can say at the very least that this is a correct, date coded rebuilt engine for this vehicle. Correct 2468330-2 block. Correct dual Carter AFB carburetors. Correct intake and heads. The original mechanical valve train has been replaced with a Mopar Performance 0 lash Hydraulic Cam and Anti Pump Lifters. Spark originates in a real Race Hemi distributor. You can swap out for a street distributor if you wish, however the Race distributor is worth about 6 times the value of a street distributor. Recent maintenance items iclude but not limited to: fresh tune up, new alternator and regulator, new water pump. (Note-The water pump is a correct high volume pump, but not the original- the original also goes with the car, but needs to be refurbished) The engine currently is adorned with a nice set of chrome valve covers- however, the original Black Matte valve covers go with the car. New Centerforce HD clutch. Correct A833 18 spline Heavy Duty Four Speed transmission. The trans is a correct 1968 model, but not the original. Heavy duty 9.75" Dana 60 3.54 Sure Grip differential. New stock configuration exhaust system with new Rhino Mufflers for a little more aggressive sound. (Note- The exhaust pipes are correct factory specs, so stock Mopar mufflers could be reinstalled- also, one of the original stock mufflers goes with the car.) Mopar Performance Heavy Duty Battery. Heavy duty 26" radiator. SUSPENSION: Hemi Suspension Package- Front Anti-Sway Bar, Hemi Torsion Bars, Hemi Leaf Springs, Firm Ride Shock Absorbers, Boxed Rear Spring Mounts, new upper and lower ball joints, new brake and fuel lines, new inner and outer tie rods and sleeves, new Pittman Arm, new master cylinder. As per factory paint, body color overspray on outer floors and undercarriage. The remaining undercarriage in primer. Check the pictures- floors, subframes, and suspension are spotless.

INTERIOR: Beautiful D4S Black and Silver Split Bench Seat Interior. Seats, headliner, door panels, carpet, dash, weatherstripping, and package shelf all in excellent condition. As a bonus a complete new 1968 padded dash and accessories go with the car. Music Master AM Wheel Radio. Original Inland Shifter has been replaced with a Hurst Model. Original shifter not with the car.

TRUNK- Spotless original quarters and trunk floor. Solid as a rock and rust free. Spare tire and trunk mat installed.
